AEW Dynamite: 4/6/2022

credit from: All Elite Wrestling

It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means! Another weekly episode of AEW’s Dynamite program except this one had quite the match card. It felt as if it was a payperview leveled card with a HUGE winner takes all main event between two of the best tag teams in the world! How did the rest of the show hold up though? Well, let’s find out with…

Match 1: Christian Cage vs Adam Cole. (Rating:3.5/5)

A bit of a first time ever match up between a certified hall of famer up against a future hall of famer in his own right. The feud between the newly dubbed Undisputed Elite and Jurassic Express (which Christian Cage serves as a mentor) has reached an all time, and it gets revealed later on in the show that ReDragon get a shot for Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy’s AEW tag team titles at next week’s Dynamite episode. But focusing on this match in particular, this was really great. Cage was able to once again prove that despite age he’s capable of hanging in the ring with some of the best wrestlers in the world! Christian almost seemed to have the match won but unfortunately with a rake to the eye, Cole was able to drop the Boom on the veteran for the pinfall victory. After the match, Cole proceeded to call out AEW world champion Hangman Page and told him to meet up in the ring. Page wasn’t in the mood to talk as he declared a challenge for next week’s Dynamite: Cole vs Page 2 in a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on the line! That’s going to be a brutal, violent yet fun match to watch.

Match 2: Men’s Owen Hart Tournament match; Max Caster vs Samoa Joe. (Rating:3/5)

As if AEW signing Keith Lee and Jeff Hardy this year wasn’t already insane, now they managed to sign the Samoan Submission Machine; Samoa freakin’ Joe! Joe made his return at last weekend’s Ring of Honor show which shocked the wrestling world. AEW owner Tony Khan then proceeded to announce that Joe would also be appearing on this week’s Dynamite; and what a way to debut and showcase your talent than by advancing in this tournament that honors the legacy of another certified legend in the world of professional wrestling in Owen Hart. Short, sweet and straight to the point; Joe quickly took care of the Acclaimed’s Max Caster in several minutes and with one Muscle Buster, Samoa Joe was able to advanced in this tournament! Truly am hyped to see what’s next in AEW for the Samoan Submission Machine.

Match 3: Tag Team Tables Match; The Hardy Boyz vs Butcher and the Blade. (Rating:4/5)

A final reunion run with Matt and Jeff Hardy in AEW on paper sounded like a crazy dream that came true; but after last week’s fun extreme rules environment match, anything seemed possible for how insane these matches will get. And so, a tables match between brothers and AFO’s Butcher and Blade was announced on last week’s episode of Rampage and the carnage was absolutely insane. Jeff was the first to be eliminated in this match followed by a double suplex by Butcher and the Blade which left Matt in a two on one predicament. Butcher was the next to go followed by Hardy hitting a leg drop off the top rope through a table. The match was won by the Hardy Brothers after Jeff climbed a ladder and delivered a Swanton Bomb through the Blade, whom was laying atop a table. A real OMG moment to end this fun match!

Main Event: Winner Takes All (ROH and AAA World Tag Team Championships); FTR (c’s) vs The Young Bucks. (Rating:5/5)

Words cannot describe how monumental this tag team match was! The amount of talent, the storytelling, the way the crowd was eating everything up: this has the chance to be the greatest tag team match in not only AEW’s history but also for both FTR and the Bucks! Counter after counter, near fall after near fall, the way the crowd was electric through and through; I absolutely LOVE tag team wrestling! The crowd of course was split but the clear favorites were indeed Dax Harwood and and Cash Wheeler. FTR with a Big Rig were able to pick up the pin against Nick Jackson after a near 30 minute classic to successfully retain both sets of ROH and AAA tag titles!

Final rating:4/5
